Annual Remembrance of Oba Ademolu Fesogbade

49th Awujale of Ijebuland · 1916 – 1925

The family gathers each year on the anniversary of his passing to honour the memory of our revered Oba and to renew the bonds of the Anikinaiya house.

Read notice

On 15 October 1925, His Royal Majesty Oba Ademolu Fesogbade, the 49th Awujale of Ijebuland, joined his ancestors. The Colonial Report for Nigeria of that year records his death and notes that he had served faithfully through a reign marked by both trial and restoration.

Each year on this date, descendants of the Anikinaiya Ruling House gather in Ijebu-Ode to honour his memory, recite the oriki of the house, and renew the bonds that hold the family together across generations and continents.

Family members at home and in the diaspora are warmly invited. Details of the venue and order of proceedings are circulated to registered family members ahead of the date.

Ojude Oba — Family Homecoming

The King's Forecourt, Ijebu-Ode

The annual gathering at the Awujale's forecourt — the grandest homecoming in the Ijebu calendar, and the moment the family assembles in full.

Read notice

Ojude Oba is celebrated on the third day after Eid al-Kabir — “Ileya” — in Ijebu-Ode. It is a grand homecoming and a symbol of unity for the Ijebu people, both at home and in the diaspora.

Members of the Ademolu Royal Family traditionally assemble before proceeding to the forecourt together. Regberegbe age-grade groups parade in coordinated attire, the Balogun families lead the horsemen's display, and the whole town turns out in Aso Oke, Adire and Agbada.

Family members intending to travel are asked to notify the administrators in advance so that arrangements can be co-ordinated.

Obituaries of Long-Lost Family Members

A standing call to the whole family

We are gathering obituaries, funeral programmes and memorial notices of family members whose records were never centrally kept.

Read notice

Many members of the Ademolu Royal Family have passed on without their records being centrally kept. Funeral programmes, newspaper obituaries, memorial cards and burial photographs are often the only surviving documents of a life — and they are frequently held by one household alone.

We are gathering these into a single family record. If you hold any such document, however incomplete, we would be grateful to receive a scan or a clear photograph of it.

You can upload documents directly through the contact form, or email them to info@awujaleademolu.org. Please include the full name of the deceased, the branch of the family, and any dates you know.
